Gigajam Masterclass

The purpose of the Masterclass is threefold:

1. To demonstrate the scope of Gigajam musically for music practitioners.
2. To demonstrate how Gigajam’s approach to learning and teaching is consistent with the government’s e-learning strategy and harnesses technology in the delivery of music as a subject, and provides opportunities for personalised learning, for students to collaborate and develop using the assessment functionality embedded in our product – in line with Priority 3.
3. Provide an opportunity to ICT and music practitioners to meet the Gigajam team who helped create the Essential Skills Course.

SESSION ONE – 1 hour 15 minutes

1. Introduction to Gigajam and team
   • Gigajam overview
   • Essential Skills Course pathway
   • Lesson content
   • Xtractor – Play-along practising software
   • Analyser - E-Assessment software
   • Collaborative learning
   • Support materials
2. Playing Level One tune
   • Demonstration of Gigajam Level One outcomes
3. How the lessons work from a learner user perspective to achieve outcomes
   • Developing students’ individual skills using lessons and software
4. Drum demonstration
5. Guitar demonstration
6. Bass demonstration
7. Keyboard demonstration
8. Students collaborating across instruments using Gigajam material, interlinking the courses

SESSION TWO – 1 hour 15 minutes

1. How the lessons work from a teacher user perspective
   • Small group teaching
   • Whole class teaching
2. Use of lesson model, Interactive Whiteboard, personalised learning session, playing as a band.
3. Use of extension activities
4. Introduction to classroom resources
5. Use of TV Shows
6. Musical instrument technology and discussion around
   • Midi using drums and keyboards
   • Midi using guitars and bass guitars
   • EZ-AG
   • Roland converters

7. Developing performance and collaborative learning

   • Use of lesson exercises to apply performance skills
   • Developing the combination of learned skills to perform tunes, using Gigajam Songbook resources
   • Expansion of performances to include use with the School Orchestra, using Gigajam Orchestra

SESSION THREE – 30 minutes

1. Gigajam course writers open forum section
   • Discussions around personal musical development
   • Professional development pathways, formal and informal
   • Musical instrument specific issues

Prices

*Expenses are to cover the trainer’s travel costs at 40p per mile, or standard train fare, plus accommodation where applicable. Expenses will be agreed ahead of the scheduled training.

Masterclass DVD-ROMs are available at £20.00 per delegate and can be ordered from Gigajam in advance or after the Masterclass session
